【摘要】:ThispracticeisfordeterminingtheeffectsofUVlight,orUVlightandwater,onadhesivebondedjointsundercontrolledbutartificialconditions.TheresultsofthispracticecanbeusedforcomparingtherelativedurabilityofseveraladhesivesinaspecificlaboratoryUVexposure.Thispracticeisnotfordeterminingaforecastofthelifeofanadhesivebondinservice.Itisonlyfordeterminingtherelativedurabilityofdifferentadhesivescomparedtoeachother.Theresultsobtainedmayvarybetweenthedifferentlightsources(xenon-arcorfluorescentUV),becauseofthedifferentspectral-irradianceofthelamps.Adhesivesshouldnotbecomparedtoeachotherbasedontheirperformanceunderdifferenttypesoflightsources.Theresultsobtainedmayvarywhenoperationconditionsarevariedwithinthelimitsofagivenmethod.Theresultsmayalsovarywhenexposuresareperformedoninstrumentsmadebydifferentmanufacturers.Comparisonsbetweenmaterialsmustonlybemadewhentheyaretestedatthesametimeinthesameinstrument.Besuretoaccuratelyreporttheoperatingconditions.ThetypeandUVtransmittancecharacteristicsofthetransparentadherendusedcanhaveasignificanteffectontherateandtypeofdegradationoftheadhesivesbeingtested.Comparisonsbetweenadhesivesmustonlybemadewhentestedontransparentadherendsofthesametype(preferablythesamelot)withthesameUVtransmission.Thispracticeisnotfordeterminingtheeffectsofatmosphericpollutants,biologicalorganisms,salt,orfreeze/thawcycles.1.1Thispracticecoversthebasicprinciplesandoperatingproceduresforultraviolet(UV)lightaging(withorwithoutwater)ofadhesivebondedjointshavingatleastoneglassortransparentadherend,usingfluorescentUV(seeMethodA)orxenon-arclightsources(seeMethodB).1.2Thispracticeislimitedtotheapparatusforobtaining,measuring,andcontrollingtheagingconditions,andtotheproceduresforexposure.Samplepreparation,strength,testconditions,andevaluationoftheresultsaredescribedinotherASTMtestmethodsorspecifications.1.3ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.Nootherunitsofmeasurementareincludedinthisstandard.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
